03 Work We Do
Sub-Zero Ice Maker Repair
Clear-ice modules, fill valves, drain lines and harvest faults on Sub-Zero ice makers.
What people describe on the phone
- Ice maker fills but the cubes come out hollow and cloudy
- No ice at all for days, though the arm is down and the line is open
- Cubes fused into one block in the bin
- Water dripping down the freezer wall under the ice module
What the visit covers
Cabinet and evaporator temperatures are logged before anything is touched, the defrost circuit is cycled by hand, and the sealed system is read under gauges where the readings call for it. You get the actual cause in writing, plus the part number and the price, before the repair starts. The visit runs on a flat $89 service call, credited in full against an approved repair.
Common failure items for the widespread built-in platforms ride on the van — evaporator fan motors, defrost heaters and terminators, thermistors, door gaskets, fill valves and control boards. Anything model-specific is ordered against your serial number so it fits the first time.
RS Rate sheet
What the work costs
Six bands cover almost everything that comes off a Sub-Zero built-in. We publish the whole sheet rather than a headline number, because a firm price needs the unit in front of the technician.
Service call Flat $89 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.
- Door gasket or seal replacement
- $300–$650
- Evaporator or condenser fan motor
- $330–$740
- Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor
- $280–$660
- Ice maker, water valve or supply line
- $270–$840
- Electronic control board
- $430–$890
- Compressor or sealed-system repair
- $1,330–$3,420
- Replacing the unit instead a comparable built-in replacement, before installation and cabinetry work
- $12,720–$21,450
Which band your fault lands in is settled by the diagnosis, not on the phone. You get one written figure for parts and labour before a panel comes off, and the work starts only once you have agreed it — approve the repair and the service call comes off the total. If the reading says the cabinet is not worth saving, we say that instead, and the comparison row above is why.

Water ran down the freezer wall under the ice module and refroze into a ridge on the shelf below. The fill tube sat off centre and the mould heater was weak. Both corrected in one visit.
The repair was solid: a harvest motor that had stopped indexing, replaced from stock on the van. My grumble is the arrival window slipping by an hour, though he did phone ahead.
No ice for most of a week. Arm down, supply line open, nothing to see. The fill valve had partly seized and was passing almost nothing. He fitted a new one and sat through a full harvest.
