Reading Stored Fault Codes on a Sub-Zero Control Panel

Only a 600 Series with the later control keeps a code list. Hold either COLDER key, press UNIT ON/OFF, release both, then step through with COLDER or WARMER: EC numbers come first, temperatures after. Which panels keep a list

Of the discontinued built-ins covered here, one control stores faults by number: the 600 Series control fitted from serial 1810000 onward. An earlier 600 shows temperatures, SERVICE and VACUUM CONDENSER, and the same keys bring up its sensor readings, but no code table sits behind them. A 500 Series has lit dials and nothing to read. A BI speaks in icons.

Getting into Diagnostic Mode

The Control Center is inside the refrigerator section on every 600 model except the 601F, where it is in the freezer. With the unit running:

  1. Press and hold either COLDER key.
  2. Press UNIT ON/OFF.
  3. Let go of both.
  4. Step through the readings with either COLDER or either WARMER key.

What comes up, in order

Stored codes lead, shown as EC and a number. Temperature readings follow, each labelled by where its sensor sits: F for the freezer compartment, r for the refrigerator compartment, FE and rE for the two evaporators. A 601R or 601RG shows r and rE only; a 601F shows F and FE only.

The steady SERVICE light afterwards

If codes turned up, SERVICE stays lit without flashing when Diagnostic Mode ends. That is the control reporting that codes are held in memory. With the unit on, a fifteen-second hold of the door-alarm bell key wipes them, and a short beep confirms it. Sub-Zero’s manual does that only after the fault is corrected; clear them first and the record of what happened goes with them.

Fourteen days of history

The same control keeps a Temperature Log Recall: two weeks of compartment and evaporator readings. It separates one warm afternoon from a slow decline.
