Door Alarm Sounding With the Door Shut
A Sub-Zero door alarm that sounds with the door closed usually means the door is resting a fraction off its seal. Look for a tall item or a gallon container on a door shelf holding it open, and check the seal all the way round. If it closes cleanly and still sounds, call Sub-Zero Repair Redmond on (425) 905-2822.

How each series warns
- 600 Series: the alarm sounds after 30 seconds with a door ajar. The BELL ON/OFF key silences it for loading, and a bell symbol in the display shows it is armed.
- BI: the ALARM key arms it and the bell icon lights while it is armed. A chime with the bell flashing means a door has stood open for more than 60 seconds.
What usually holds a door off
Sub-Zero’s service manuals list food in the way, a gallon container on a door shelf, a door out of adjustment and a hinge problem. Only the first two are loading.
The closing hardware
On the 611 and 650 the refrigerator door has a closing cam: it holds the door open at about 120 degrees and takes over at about 15 degrees to draw it shut. The 601R, 601RG, 601F, 632, 642, 661, 685 and 695 use spring-loaded closures instead. A worn cam or a tired spring leaves a door resting just short of closed.
Lights on with the door shut
The later 600 manual pairs door-ajar complaints with lights that stay on behind a closed door, caused by a bent or missing switch depressor or a failed switch.
