Sub-Zero Classic Series: What Changed From BI
The Classic Series is Sub-Zero's current built-in generation, announced in October 2022, with model numbers that begin CL. It follows the BI and brings Split Climate cooling, a touch control panel and lighting that dims itself in a dark room. The tag inside the door tells the two apart; Sub-Zero Repair Redmond, (425) 905-2822.
Identify it
- A model number beginning CL on the tag inside the door near the top hinge, or inside the left-hand door on a French door.
- A touch control panel that sets temperatures, air quality and the ice maker.
- LED lighting over the shelves and drawers that lowers its brightness when the room is dark.
- A 48-inch French door: Sub-Zero's launch release calls it the brand's first at that width.

The fifth Classic
Sub-Zero’s October 2022 release describes the CL line as the fifth time the Classic Series has been updated since the company began in 1945. The earlier built-in with BI model numbers is now filed under the same Classic name, which is why a phone call about “a Classic” starts with the tag rather than the word.
What a repair notices
Split Climate cooling. Sub-Zero’s name for the cooling system of the current line, which it presents as its answer to keeping food fresh longer. The touch control panel. Temperatures, air quality and the ice maker are set from one panel, with a Night Mode that turns the interior lighting down in a dim room. Air purification. A system Sub-Zero says scrubs ethylene and odour from the air every 20 minutes. ClearSight LED lighting. Overhead, shelf and drawer lights rather than a single lamp. Connectivity. The release lists Wi-Fi among the features of the new line.

Warranty before anything else
A Classic installed recently may still be covered by Sub-Zero’s own warranty. Find the installation paperwork before booking any independent visit; while that cover runs, Sub-Zero’s customer care is the first call. Once it has lapsed, a CL is repaired from the same starting point as any other unit: the model and serial off the tag.
